About Bailey Content
Bailey Content is a freelance service owned and operated by me, April Bailey. I'm a long-term freelance writer and former web content project manager who works from home with five yellow dogs surrounding me and providing me with inspiration. They eat a lot, so I have to work a lot to keep them happy!
My Interests
When I'm not busy working, I have several hobbies and interests that keep me occupied and help inform some of my writing.
When I'm not busy working, I have several hobbies and interests that keep me occupied and help inform some of my writing.
- Dog Health & Nutrition
I recently helped two senior dogs lose over 40 lbs each by studying dog nutrition, learning how to do dietary calculations, and creating homemade treats as part of their diet modification. This loss was with no additional exercise, by the way. As a result, I've founded Cosset Pet Care, a service that provides weight management guidance to owners who need help for their dogs. - Holistic Health & Nutrition
A chance encounter with a man who beat terminal cancer using principles of Ayurveda piqued my interest. That was 15 years ago. At the time he was 3 years cancer-free. He is still alive and traveling the US with his wife in a Winnebago. I've used my research in this area to help myself stay well and have incorporated some of the principles into the dog care that I provide. - Food Exploration
Cooking and food history are probably one of my biggest passions. I'm working on learning to bake different breads, studying up on cheese (I always said I was going to ditch my career and become a a cheese monger), and I am exploring cooking methodologies and recipes from the the Great Depression through World War II. I have a fascination with old kitchen gadgetry that plays well into this hobby. - Genealogy & History
Supposedly my family is related to pretty damn near every US colonial big shot and every UK royal that was ever born. I'm doubtful about this, but it's a great impetus for learning about history. Currently, I'm in the process of developing a graphically-appealing and easy-to-use genealogy website called Traveling Through Time that will represent the stories of a family and provide supporting documents. - Mid Century Modern Design
As a former designer, I find myself latching onto a design trend a good 10 years before it becomes popular. Such is the case with MCM. I started this love affair in roughly 2005 and put lots of time and effort into studying up on it. Long before the sleek lines and signature color palettes we see today started to show up in everything from clothing to household goods, I had built up a good collection at a great low price. Times changed, prices went sky high, and I've moved on - this time with an eye towards Art Deco. - Amateur Photography
Even though I own several cameras, both film and digital, I'm always trying to capture a great action or close up shot with my cell camera, as it would be way too easy using a traditional digital one. I call these my "lucky shots" since most of the time I can barely see what I'm actually shooting because of screen glare. But really, the beauty lies in the cropping. If you don't know how to create flow, it'll show!

Other Things I've Been Up To
I've been a researcher in one form or another since my career began. Starting young (like 14 years old), I worked for a law firm doing title and probate searches. Many years later, I obtained my graduate degree in Library and Information Sciences (MLIS) from the University of Pittsburgh School of Computing and Information and provided research related to the PEN-DOR Project, a digital education repository hosted by the school.
From there I provided research related to the cataloging of and funding for the preservation of The William G Beal Moving Images project, an industrial and commercial movie collection housed in the Detre Library & Archives at the Senator John Heinz History Center.
While there, I also researched methodologies for the Center to digitize their historic collection of images for the area’s major companies (Heinz, Westinghouse, US Steel, etc.) to make them accessible online for purchase. After leaving this position, I was selected for a fellowship at UMass Amherst where I researched the needs of students and alumni as it related to career resources. I worked to revamp the existing career library and researched and acquired sources that could be made available through a newly developed UMassAnherst Career Services web portal that I was instrumental in creating.
I have also worked for many years managing web content via digital libraries and content systems for Fortune 500 companies, in the end making the information accessible to colleagues around the world.
One of my more recent freelance jobs has resulted in the publication of the book “Program Favorites: A Collection of Equine-Assisted Activities” where I served as the editor and oversaw the publishing process.
Currently, aside from handling web content, I build websites for small businesses and work as an estate caretaker.
